Brandy Derrick started Legal Ease Bookkeeping so she could help attorneys the power to grow their firms by providing sound bookkeeping and financial planning. Brandy wants lawyers to spend more time practicing law and less time worrying about bookkeeping.

Brandy is a LeanLaw Accounting Pro.

What will you be speaking about at QuickBooks Connect 2019? Why did Intuit choose you?
I will be presenting Advanced Legal Firm Issues- Handling Trust Accounts and Other Complex Reporting Situations, where I will show how to use reports to help law firm clients. I will also be on a panel with the topic of How to Provide Advisory Services to Your Legal Firm Clients. Intuit chose me because I am an expert when it comes to QuickBooks Online and law firms.

What do you want the audience to take away from your presentation?
Accounting professionals can be heroes to their clients. There is so much more than just compliance when it comes to helping law firms and the audience can really make a difference to this industry.

How many years have you gone to QuickBooks Connect?
This is my second time

How long have you been working with QuickBooks Online?
Since 2004

Why should an accounting pro go to QuickBooks Connect 2019 for the first time?
You’ll learn so much in the breakout sessions including workflows, new apps and other ways to help your clients. You’ll meet vendors and colleagues to share ideas and problems to learn how they would handle situations.

What are you looking forward to at the conference?
I am looking to learn from my peers and build relationships.

What do you hope to accomplish at QBConnect?
First and foremost, I hope that I can present valuable information to the audience. I am hoping to come back with a solid plan to take my business to the next level.

Any advice on how to get the most out of the conference?
Make friends and have conversations! The first conference I went to, before the first session I struck up a conversation with the person sitting next to me. It was her first time too, and so we were able to bond over that. We started saving each other seats and hanging out the rest of the conference. Now, we have become colleagues who share ideas and support each other but more than that, we have become friends.

Last year, I decided to put stars next to my notes of all the things I really wanted to do. By the end of the conference, I had over 50 stars… so there was no way I was going to do all of them. If you implement one new thing, you will be ahead of so many people who never change. What I am trying to say is, don’t get overwhelmed with all the things you want to do, instead pick 1-3 things to focus on in the next year.
